90,000 mile checkup?
This may not be the usual DIODE fare, but I have a question about car service. (Hey, even PC Magazine has a lame-ass monthly article on cars now so it's not just me).
I have a 1998 Lexus ES300. It's been through the wringer but keeps on ticking (I think that's the phrase), and now it's time for the 90K mile checkup.
The Lexus dealership wants $500 to do that service. On one hand I'm thinking, hey, it's a major milestone, the 90K mile thing, and these come every 3-4 years or so, so it might be worth it to have Lexus do it.
On the other hand I'm all, "$500?! FARC THAT!"
So my question is, is it recommended that the dealer do these X,000 mile checkups? In fact, is there even another way to do it? I mean, will the people down at the auto body shop do it, and is that considered a good idea? I know, I could just call the the auto body shop myself and find out if they do it, but then what would be bloggable about that.
Any thoughts?

Sweet. I just found a well-rated mechanic from the listings at Cartalk and it will be at LEAST $250 cheaper than what Lexus would have charged me ... in fact Lexus' $500 charge is basically just for doing the checkup itself, whereas at the mechanic I'll mostly be charged only for what needs repairing or replacing ... DIODE comes though yet again!!!!

24 hours later, the 90K mile checkup is done, the front brake pads replaced, serpentine belt changed, fuel filter changed, some other things, total of $315 ... man, you guys are da bomb!!! Lexus would have charged me extra for ALL that stuff, on top of the $500.
Plus the guy running the place was really great and seemed quite knowledgeable. (That looks like it's spelled wrong. Is it "knowledgable"?)
