Bluetooth DUN on Treo ... can't stand it anymore

So I've been using Bluetooth DUN on the Treo now for a few months now, since there's no Wi-Fi at the place I 'work', and I'm growing increasingly aggravated at the speed of this thing, or lack thereof.

Yes, I know that previously I reported some fantastic speed when I initially set it up, like 172kbps, and that was obviously pretty nice.

It's gotten progressively slower since then, and where I am right now, I get a whopping 32.9kbps.

This might have been fine in 1995 when I had a "pipeline.com" email address, but in today's world, this is not conducive to getting a whit of work done.

I've searched the web & treocentral for ideas on how to speed this up (my signal strength on the Sprint network is 3-4 bars, so it can't be that, can it?) ... nothing, except maybe a program called PDANet that allows Treo modem usage over a USB cable. Will have to get this and see if it works ... arrgh.

90,000 mile checkup?

This may not be the usual DIODE fare, but I have a question about car service. (Hey, even PC Magazine has a lame-ass monthly article on cars now so it's not just me).

I have a 1998 Lexus ES300. It's been through the wringer but keeps on ticking (I think that's the phrase), and now it's time for the 90K mile checkup.

The Lexus dealership wants $500 to do that service. On one hand I'm thinking, hey, it's a major milestone, the 90K mile thing, and these come every 3-4 years or so, so it might be worth it to have Lexus do it.

On the other hand I'm all, "$500?! FARC THAT!"

So my question is, is it recommended that the dealer do these X,000 mile checkups? In fact, is there even another way to do it? I mean, will the people down at the auto body shop do it, and is that considered a good idea? I know, I could just call the the auto body shop myself and find out if they do it, but then what would be bloggable about that.

Any thoughts?
